The origins of the eLene group can be traced back to the report “
Virtual models of European Universities” carried out in 2003 by the Danish consultancy firm PLS Ramboll for the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, available on www.elearningeuropa.info.

These institutions, the majority of whom were case studies for the above report, have since submitted three successful proposals to the EU under the Virtual Campus action line of the eLearning programme.
